Holcomb looks like a pretty quiet town that doesn’t have that much crime. It also doesn’t have that much people in the town so basically everyone knows everyone and the Clutters was the most popular people in the town and they were known for not getting in trouble and being so awesome. I think the author spend so much describing the town because the clutters murder was the shock/talk of the town so that’s why he felt it was so important to describe the town. The jail description contribute to the novel because that’s where the murderers are from and they found out about the clutters through another male inside of the cells who said how he worked for them and they had a safe full of money. But that was all a lie so basically when they got out of jail they planned to rob the clutters but they found out it wasn’t any money or anything. Plus if William Floyd wouldn’t of told them that lie they probably wouldn’t of got out and plan to kill and rob the clutters that’s why describing the prison and the town is the most important part of the story, well that’s what I believe.
