Theme

I think an important theme in the book could be family. First of all the Clutters can be shown as a symbol of a happy family. The Clutters’ family, in which are destroyed by Perry, who can be shown what it means to come from a messed up home. You can tell the difference in behavior between the Clutter family and Perry by the fact that the family was strong and Perry was a criminal. But I’m not really sure why Dick is a criminal. Dick is still married to his wife and has three sons. Dick has a dream of becoming self-sufficient which are probably linked to being able to support his wife and kids. I think all of a persons future actions are based on how you were raised with your family. I can probably determine on how happy or how bad you will live your life.
