In our society reputation is somewhat important. It’s not as
important as it was back then. If you had a bad reputation or were doing things
that were not allowed in your area, there would have been big consequences for
your acts. For instance those who did witchcraft in the 1690’s knew that it was
not permitted in their village. Knowing that witchcraft wasn’t allowed, some
people went ahead and did it anyway. Perhaps the result of punishment was worse
because the village was a very religious place at that time of period. These
people accused of doing witchcraft were hanged, stoned to death, and even
beaten.
The majority of
people do care about what others think of them. Otherwise they would not try to
make themselves look good in public. These people dislike bad opinions because
they feel that it is making them look bad in public eyes. This does not mean
that there are people that do care at all of what people think of them. Since
the penalty is not so severe like in the Witch Trails, they keep on doing what
it is that makes there own person look bad to folks. Every human being will
eventually be judge if they are or aren’t doing well.
