Holcomb is an average farming location in Kansas. It is a very ordinary town with little stores, town folk, houses, and farms out in the area. Almost everyone knows each other so it’s a small town. This story takes place in Kansas in an open area in the middle of the United States and this story takes place in a very normal setting like any other day in this town. But no one knew what was going to happen on this day. The author uses so much time describing this town because he wanted to show people that it was like any other town with farms in this area. It’s a little bit different because, most people know each other and in some other towns no body knows any one so it must mean this town was friendly. It compares to other towns because there are many other towns with farming areas and also as small as this town. Holcomb is an ordinary town with many pieces of land for farming. The setting takes place in Holcomb but it turned out to be a very unexpected day for everyone because no one had seen this coming, the Clutters were just an ordinary family in this area.
