Francios
Villon was a French poet, thief, and vagabond. When he was young at an early
age he got into many troubles. He killed a priest when he was young and fled
from Paris. He also was involved with burglary in a college and was on the run
for about 4 years. He was then found and then he was hanged. These four lines
come from “Ballade des Pendus.” They were one of the poems he wrote before
he was hanged. I think Villon wrote this because he knew how much corruption he
had created. To me it might be since he was about to day he actually felt
guilty to do everything he did. I think Capote put this in his writing for the
same reasons. He felt as if the world was changing and there so much wrong with
what happened with the Clutter’s murder. There is also a part where it says
even his brother had abandoned Villon. He had been Perry and Dick’s friend. He
also in a way couldn’t do anything for them. They had done something wrong and
where paying for it, and even though Capote didn’t agree with what they did he
still befriended them and were close. In the end I think Capote felt guilty
about publishing the book. He saw so many wrong things that had happened. He
also was surprised to see how much corruption there was. He was surprised by
everything that was going on. I think that why Capote put this at the begging
of the book.
