The theme if In Cold Blood is nature vs. nurture. Perry had a bad life with an abusive father, alcoholic mother, sibling suicides and his own sister not loving him. His experience of a bad life has lead him to make many mistakes and crimes. This has also lead him to go psycho.

Perry's life is a sad life. But what he has done was even more sad but more horrible. Dick and perry have done a horrible crime.
