Death Penalty

I believe the death penalty does help prevent crimes a little. Its just thank we can never really be sure. There are crimes and murders still being committed even with the death penalty out there so people can argue that it doesn’t. All we know for certain is that the victims of the death penalty will no longer be committing any more crimes. But in reality that isn’t insuring enough. And the death penalty isn’t scaring shop lifters, bad drivers, or drug dealers into a crimeless life. They cant even be touched by the death penalty and those are the crimes that are being committed the most.  Maybe If every crime was eligible of the death penalty THEN id say it would help prevent crimes. Everyone would be too scared to do anything! As for the families of the crime victims.. I don’t think they should be able to chose if the murderer gets the death penalty or not. All they would have going through their minds is revenge. Most families would give the death penalty to any and all murders and that wouldn’t be fair at all just because their emotions would be all up in a bunch. And the families should definitely not be able to pull the switch that ends the prisoners. That’s not something that should be put in the hands of a regular citizen, a government official or some type of law enforcer should be held responsible of doing so.

ICB Blog 2: Does The Death Penalty Prevent Crime? (Kevin)

The death penalty does not always prevent crime from happening in the country, at least not today, because if it did then criminals wouldn’t still be doing the crime that gets them sentenced to it. One person getting executed for comitting crimes should be an example to other people but, these crimes are still happening daily. Yes the death penalty stops the person who was killed by it from commiting crimes but it does not nessesarly deter the minds of other criminals nor their intentions. A lot of people commit crimes on impulse without thinking or caring about the consequenses of their actions. The death penalty is more of a punishment for a criminal than a way to scare others anyway.  Fear of the death penalty may cause a few to hesitate committing crimes but defiantly not all. Another reason why the death penalty does not prevent crimes is because the justice system does not enforce it as much as they use to. Today If a criminal commited a “Death Penalty” worthy crime such as first degree murder but the judge only sentences him to some years in prison then it would not put as much fear into the society and people that commit the crimes because they know that they would not lose their life and have a posibility of getting out of prison.

Timeliness (Jamilex)

I feel that Capotes book still has a timelines to it because it portrays people who act and think like people would today. People are still fascinated by crime and criminals. The tabloids at any store carry sensational articles about celebrities and horrible crimes. “In Cold Blood” is a book that is still famous because it tells an interesting story. Does the book possess an timeliness or dated? I think it does for another its dated because the way the criminals planed it up and how they knew what to do next. Then in the book it says the date when was it and when it happened and what did the criminals do. Then I think its timeliness too because the life time of the murders I think they thought about killing someone back when they were young. I think they were knowing what were they going to do like if the criminals were alive today they would be doing the same thing killing somebody. Then I look at like this way if they have killed someone of today I don’t think there plan would turn out the same. I say that because I mean that house was alone and now day houses are together and if there is a shooting the neighbors will know.

Crime Victims (Jaqueline)

-->
Blog 2
I don’t think families of crime victims should be allowed to administer the death penalty because nothing is going to bring back the lives of the people. It sure does make sense that people want to kill the person that killed their family relative but not just because of that your going to ruin your life also. Things happen for a reason in my point of view. They shouldn’t be the ones ruin the life of the prisoners because their in there for a reason. Their already paying what they did but its up to the jury what are they going to be doing to them. Some do kill them and some give them life in prison. I just think they shouldn’t be allowed.

Death Penalty (Jamilex)

Does the death penalty help prevent crime in our country? Death penalty doesn’t stop preventing crimes from happening. There is still going to be crimes happening in my country either way. I say either way criminals will not stop doing crimes because they are still doing them. They will never learn to stop and how if they want to do crime they will do it.  Should families of crime victims be allowed to administer the death penalty? I don’t think that the families should be the ones to administer the death penalty. How about is someone you love family member and your pulling the switch. I think that if someone is convicted of murder and sentenced to death that a professional who has been trained properly should be the one who to pull the switch. I know that families might be very happy to get revenge but I think that they should leave that to the authorities or someone at least. Its like if they want to kill like that person who murdered his family member and they want to pull the switch then their doing the same thing the guy did its like their doing the same thing that the killer did. I think that death penalty is not going to do nothing good at all and its not going to solve problems at all.

Trayvon Martin (Daleshawn)

ICB Blog 2
            Nature versus nurture plays a role in the debate of the Trayvon Martin murder. Saying that the nature of Zimmerman could be that he always thought that a person walking the streets with a hood on is a criminal. Maybe he always thought that a lot of black people were criminals or drug dealers, and other things like that. Zimmerman also could always have thoughts that people he did not know or trust was or is a bad person. He could also be racist against many different races that is not the same or similar to his own race. Zimmerman assumed that Trayvon Martin wanted to harm, rob, or kill him just because Trayvon had a hood on and he looked suspicious to Zimmerman. He also assumed that Trayvon was up to no good or planning to do something he was not supposed to do. The society sees this event as an act of stereotyping. The reason why they think that is that Trayvon Martin was known as a good kid never done anything wrong, stayed out of trouble, and did what he was told. Just saying, if the environment that they were in had less crimes going on maybe Zimmerman probably would have not killed Trayvon. Zimmerman’s environment that made him kill was probably a violent environment that made him start to kill in the first place. The society could help prevent things like this by telling the children to not be out at night by your-self or not at all. They could also help by telling the children to not wear their hoods at night, and if they do wear them be alert of your surroundings or who is around you.
