In Cold Blood’s Outdated or not?

Now Forty years after In Cold Blood’s was published does the story sound outdated? In many parts of the story it may seem to be so because of the way everything was worded. Many of the words used in the story were used back then. If you look into the story and compare some of those words to the way people speak now are way different some not so much. For example the way the described Kansas sounds a little like how it would be back then. The way Kansas is now is a lot more different then the way it was described in the book.  The way people seemed to dress back then is also very different. Most people In Kansas now a days don’t wear clothing people in the story wore. There are a couple ways in which the story does not seem so outdated. The way they say Kansas is nothing but land and not much to it is true for some parts of Kansas. Like the parts of Kansas in which are in the middle of no where that very few people live in.  A crime like this would not have gotten away so easily now like it did then. It would not have taken so long for people to find out about it and make it so long of a case. People have changed and there are many more people around everywhere, so I would be a hard crime to get away with, unlike it was back then. For that most people would be able to tell this was  a case that is from a long time ago.

Die with honor or staying alive without it (Brenda)

Having to live and lose my dignity or die and keep my honor? Honestly I would chose to die with my honor and dignity over staying alive without all that any day. One of the big main reasons being that I would like to be remembered in a good way. I would like to keep my name in a good memory. When someone says my name I want everyone to think of something good I accomplished or know I was a good person who had a great character. Being dead I would at least have good things said about me while I’m resting.  Why would anyone choose to be alive, without everything that makes a person? Who are you without your dignity and your integrity? Being able to hold your honor is something great and without it, nothing ever means anything. Being alive without all that would make you a nobody. You would be alive without any respect from anyone and on top of that you, yourself would have to live with all that in your conscience. No matter what people will always talk down on you and on everything you do but what really matter’s is knowing that you were a good person throughout your life yourself and not letting anything anyone says affect you. Keeping your conscience clean will probably help you live your life a whole lot better without having to worry about anything and facing the fear of knowing that everything everyone says is true. Faith, honor, decency, pride, and dignity are probably the most important things to keep and have in life. They are what makes a person who and what they are and who they have become.

Hysteria (Brenda)

        Do we let hysteria occur today in modern society? Yes, as a matter of fact I think we do. Many people today let their fear of something get in the way of moving on with their lives of letting that fear stop them from doing something they want to do. I feel many people become blind with certain things because they let those specific feeling get into their head and think things that are not necessarily true. People let certain thoughts control over their feelings that may have not been there before or change them completely all over one thing stuck in their head.  Jealousy, fear, shyness, and other emotions ruin people’s way of thinking and their actions. Many people tend to let theses things stay in their mind and change their logical thinking. This doesn’t only affect them but any other person involved. This issue has been around for a while and affects almost everybody today. People in relationships, parents and their children, siblings, friendships, and sometimes even teachers and students. Point is society today sometimes tends to let wrong feelings or certain things ruin their personal life because of hysteria and how people react towards all those mixed emotions. 

Reputation (Brenda)

Reputation in our society is very important.  The Majority of people don’t care what people have to say when they’re out and about doing whatever it is that they’re doing. But once it comes down to it and the consequences come up and people begin to start talking stuff then that’s when people begin to care. It’s also important because most people wouldn’t want to have a bad reputation. Imagine going to a job interview and then having the do a background check on you and they wont hire you because you have a bad reputation as a criminal or something.  Not only that but most teenage girls have a bad reputation now a days and most guys all know who to talk to when they know what they want. Your reputation says a lot about you and who you are. Your reputation not only affects you but those around you like your parents, friends, and other family members. Depending on what your reputation is sometimes all reflects on how those around you get treated all just for talking to you. There are all types of reputations. Reputations from good to bad from being “cool” to being “lame” but in the end when it comes down to it the only thing that matters is how successful you are and what you think about yourself and what you made yourself in to.
