I believe that it is way better to die with integrity than to compromise your faith, honor,
and decency in order to live because if you don’t stand up for what you believe
in then you will never have a purpose in life. If no one stands up for what he
or she believe in then nothing will ever change. The Crucible Character John
Procter didn’t want to lie to save his life because the document with his name
signed on it would be posted on the church door where everyone in the town could
see it and that would take his self-respect and his respect from the people
around him and he would rather die than his name be tainted and be known as a
liar. I would do the same thing because I don’t want to be known as a coward to
everyone and coward to myself for the rest of my life just to breathe. If you
choose to die everyone will remember you, as the person who always Kept true to
his or her personal values and never compromised what they believe in and I
will die as a brave, faithful and Honest person. I’m not saying I would die only
because I want a good reputation judged by someone else but I would die because
I would know that my life wasn’t lived in vein. I know that it is a tough decision
to make when your life is on the line and I would have to think strongly about
it before I make it but this is what I believe I would do if I were in this
situation.

Reputation (Kevin)
Reputation played a very important role in Salem during the witch trials as well as it does in Today’s Society. No matter what we do, or where we go the people and community that surrounds us, if for the better or the worst inevitably judge us. If someone dresses, talks, or acts differently they are look at as weird. A lot of people change things about themselves that they love to fit in and socially be accepted by Society in fear of being an outcast or judged by others on their beliefs, behavior, or looks. Almost everyone wants to be socially accepted and wants to fit in but that can be very challenging to achieve with a bad reputation. When you earn yourself a bad reputation it sticks for a while and it is hard to get rid of. Judgment is a natural reaction when we first meet someone. If someone you are meeting for the first time has a bad reputation you will automatically assume they are a bad person because of the things you heard from other people about that person. I believe that people should care about what other people think about them only to an extent, but not change anything about themselves that they believe is right even when other people may not agree with it.

Reverend Hale (Carlton)
-->
Reverend John Hale changed his opinion over religion and
witches once he started to realize that Abigail and the other girls were lying
about the whole situation. When Mary Warren started to confess that all of them
were faking about being controlled by witchcraft, Abigail and the other girls
started to turn against her. That is when John Proctor told everybody in the
courtroom about the affair that him and Abigail was having before his wife
Elizabeth dismissed her. Mr. Hale believes everything that John said was the
true but Governor Danforth wanted Elizabeth Proctor to come in and confirm the
story. Since Elizabeth didn’t want John to get into trouble she lied and said
that John and Abigail never had an affair. This led to Danforth sending
Elizabeth out of the courtroom and him disbelieving John story. When Hale
started to say he believed that John was telling the truth Abigail starts
pretending she saw a bird. The other girls soon followed and started repeating
everything Mary was saying. This led to Mary accusing John of threatening her
and his arrest. After Abigail disappear
with her uncle money, Danforth and Parris knew everything was a lie. Because
they wanted to protect their reputation they wanted John to confess and he
refused to do it. This led to Reverend Hale questioning about his religion and
witches. This now make him a good man because he realized that a lot of people
were blamed and hanged for no reason and what he did was wrong.

Reputation (Daleshawn)
Reputation in our society today is very important to a lot
of people who care about their reputation. I think to the people who do not
care at all thinks it is not at all important. I think that it is very
important times three. The majority of people in my society I think they care
about how people think about them. Why I believe this is because a lot of
people are committing suicide for getting made fun of how they dress, what they
look like, something in the past that happened and everyone knows about it, and
how that person acts or talks. Another reason is that the people that care
about their reputation were to be talked about how they dress that person would
try to change their wardrobe or get new clothing, and they would probably talk
to someone about what was said about them and talk about that person or people
that was talking about them. If someone was to be talked about some mistake
they made and everyone talks about that then that person would get mad, when
they get mad they would try to fight someone talking about them, or talk to
someone about it so they can get help to avoid those people that talk about
them. So that is the reasons why reputation is very important in my society.
Hysteria (Ana)
I think in our modern society we do let hysteria take over.
For example when there is a killing or when an accident happens some people
react and do instead of thinking straight and looking at all the options they
have. Even for example when an accidents happen say a little kid gets hurt
playing some mothers automatically cry and expect the worst when in reality its
just a little scratch or bump.
Not only do
people rationally react when something happens to kids, people mostly women let
their emotions get a hold of them when having to do with breakups. They don’t
think clearly and make a fool of themselves. They are over powered with their
broken heart that instead of getting over the break up they make the situation
bigger than it really is.
In the book
the people from the town over react to there being witches and since they are
afraid they let that fear over rule their rational thinking. If they would have
maybe thing would have turned out different and the lives that were lost would
have been saved. People would have
really thought about whom they were accusing and maybe the whole hangings would
never have happened.
Crucible (Daleshawn)
There are a couple other definitions of the word Crucible that
Arthur Miller could have used for the book the Crucible. But the definition
that the Arthur Miller used is a severe test or trial. In the book the town of
Salem have a big trial for a lot of people being accused for practicing witchcraft
or accused for being a witch. The people that are being accused are either
innocent or have been framed or accused by Abigail and the group of girls that
are scared of Abigail. The author also use the definition severe test, when
Abigail framed John Proctor for something he did not do and also framed his
wife, so she makes John Proctor choose to live with a dishonored name or die
for what he believes. The severe test was not just for John Proctor it was for
Salem as a whole. The reason why I think that is just because of someone has a
different religion that they think it is not the right religion or that they
worship the devil or something that is similar to those things. If someone was
in a coma the town would try to accuse someone or group of people of being a
witch or accused of practicing witchcraft.

Honor (Fonda)
Personally I would rather die and keep my honor. I wouldn’t
want to die and lose my dignity because that’s not a good thing to be
remembered by. When I die I want to die with good things said behind my name. I
want people to think of me as a legend, I want people to think about me and
have every good thing to say about me. Rather if I’m famous, or not because
nobody wants to die and lose their dignity. I want to be remembered by my
community as me being a good person. I would want my kids to have a good name
for there selves also, as in growing up. If everyone knows that their mom is
Fonda Rothschild then they wont have such a hard life growing up like they
would if I had a bad name for myself. Dying and losing your dignity would be a
disgrace to your family, they would more then likely be ashamed to claim you,
or even say that your apart of them, let alone even being their mom, and I’m
sure the kids would get picked on, talked about, and etc. If your name was
disgraced then your family would have to keep your faith, and honor and still
take pride in who ever it was that died, because they are still apart of you
and either way you look at it you’ll still have their name tied to you.
