Suspense (Monica)

I think Capote does a good job on building suspense in the book because he does a great job at telling the story from different points of view. He tells the story from the killer’s point of view and how they plan to kill the Clutter family; he puts suspense when he tells the story from their point of view because we can feel what they feel and we can imagine what they are doing which makes the book more interesting. I think the best part were Capote gives good suspense is when Nancy and the other girl go in and find the Clutter family dead. The reason that Capote gives a lot of suspense is so that the reader could really know what happened not just between the clutter family but the killers, cops, family members, neighbors, and people that has ever interacted with the Clutter family. Some other authors aren’t really good with doing things like giving suspense in stories that’s why I think people really like to read  “In Cold Blood” even though they already know what is going to happen they still read it because they also want to know information about the killers and the police and how people felt when the Clutters got murdered. Capote knows people will read his books if he puts a lot of suspense in it, I think that why he chose to write about the Clutter Murder.

Execution Debate (Monica)

I do think that the death penalty prevents more crimes because the death penalty is a crime itself, its killing someone and killing someone is a crime. I do think the victim’s family should have the decision to choose the death penalty for someone. If the victim tells me that he wants to die because he feels bad for what he did then I would choose the death penalty for them. I don’t think the warden should be the one to pull the switch because they’ll probably feel bad after they kill the criminal, I think the criminal or a family member of the criminal should be the ones who choose the person who pulls the switch. Not the jail. I feel like the death penalty causes more problems in life, for example what if they catch the wrong criminal and they choose the death penalty for him or her and than later on the actual killer confesses what are they going to do then, kill that guy too? I just think they should be treated badly and that they should have life in jail with no visitor’s people like killers don’t deserve to have visitors or even have the right to interact with other people. But I also think it all depends on how bad the crime is. Perry and Dick deserve what they got because of how bad the crime was.

to plead innocent to being a witch (Monica)

When someone said they were innocent its because they probably are is just that people don’t believe them or they are to busy believing other peoples lies that they don’t notice that you are telling the truth. I think it’s the people who actually admit are the ones who should be punished not the just automatically say that they didn’t do anything. People risked their lives because they don’t want a bad word on their name or they didn’t want to live with people who are just going to talk bad about them. If I was being accused of something id dint do I would just probably let them kill me because they are never going to stop accusing you of things. Honor and Respect is important because that’s how people are liked and hated, if someone knows how to respect people and be honest with them than that person will probably be liked by a lot of people, But if that person doesn’t respect or isn’t honest than that person is probably hated, That’s also what reputation is about being liked or hated. I would’ve of felt stressed that people are blaming me for things I didn’t do and I probably would’ve went crazy.
