Death Penalty does not stop crimes from happening. Crime happens everywhere and is obviously not something new to this world. It has been done for many years and it is a topic that people are very concerned about. Criminals will keep on doing crimes as long as they know that they will get away with it. If they ever get caught then they will suffer the consequences, but still till today there are numerous criminals that have not been caught. Lets just hope that in the near future there might be better technology so we can locate criminals’ easily.

            Families should be allowed to administer the death penalty or their relative if they want to. If they do not want to, the prisoner will get to choose the death penalty he wants. Also if the family had the option of being the one to pull the switch that ends the prisoner’s life, then they could decide to do it. The prisoner and his family will have a chance to see each other in a room to get all their thoughts of how the death penalty will be.  The family members will receive at least 40 minutes to spend time with their loved one. There the family will get the chance to say any last words they have for the prisoner. Besides, this will be the last time they will ever see each other.

Integrity Over Losing Dignity

Many of us value integrity in ourselves. We also look for it consistently in our leaders or anyone around us. Integrity is important because it keeps you from never having to spend time or energy questing our selves. When we listen to our heart and do the right thing, life becomes simple. Having Integrity means gaining trust of our leaders and those around you. In other words you are dependable. Having trust takes you places. Also when you hold yourself accountable for your action you become a role model for others to follow. This is what John Proctor did, he choose Integrity over losing his dignity. He did not want his name to be hanged up for public eyes to see, knowing he was innocent.

Losing your dignity will bring some hard consequences. Your name can be stepped on, cursed and hated. When your name is mentioned it can be like say the word devil to some people or like an annoying noise they can’t stand hearing. It can cause you to go crazy and every want suicide because of so many insults. John did not want this and besides he wanted his son to know him as a good man. John knew that if he told the truth he would have to hang. He preferred this over letting people stare at him and judge him strongly. In his heart he must of felt that to die this way was the best choice out of the two choices he had.

Hysteria (Sarai)

            If we let our emotions control our logic and thinking it can be very destructive. In the case of the witch trails hysteria overruled logic and empowered people to believe lies about their neighbors and people they had thought highly of. They were sometimes accused of absurd crimes. Innocent lives were taken away in a snap. Those accused were hanged, stoned, tortured, and even locked up in prison until they died.

McCarthyism is one of the huge hysterias that happened in the United States. If any one were to say that you were for communism in the 1920’s, it would have been your worst nightmare. People lost their careers because of this. Their way of life was not the same as it was before. Lynching in the United States is another example of hysteria. Whites accused blacks of doing things that they were not permitted to do, for instance, whistling at white woman. The Witch Trails, McCarthyism, and The Lynching in the United States, are a couple examples of what can happen when people loose control of their own logic and thinking. They end up hurting others because of their fear. A person can falsely accuse another person and make it look real to obtain something out of it.

Reputation (Sarai)

In our society reputation is somewhat important. It’s not as important as it was back then. If you had a bad reputation or were doing things that were not allowed in your area, there would have been big consequences for your acts. For instance those who did witchcraft in the 1690’s knew that it was not permitted in their village. Knowing that witchcraft wasn’t allowed, some people went ahead and did it anyway. Perhaps the result of punishment was worse because the village was a very religious place at that time of period. These people accused of doing witchcraft were hanged, stoned to death, and even beaten.

 The majority of people do care about what others think of them. Otherwise they would not try to make themselves look good in public. These people dislike bad opinions because they feel that it is making them look bad in public eyes. This does not mean that there are people that do care at all of what people think of them. Since the penalty is not so severe like in the Witch Trails, they keep on doing what it is that makes there own person look bad to folks. Every human being will eventually be judge if they are or aren’t doing well.
